Replacement cooler for i5

I am wanting a cooler that will run silent and a little cooler than stock. It in an open case so I have room for anything.

Budget: upto £50 but don't wann to spend what I don't have to
CPU: i5 2400 @ stock until needed to be overclocked.

Overclock it first, then see how much cooling power you need. No point spending 50 quid to cool down stock speeds, your not going to blow anything up.

You can't overclock the CPU so there's no point buying a £50 cooler. Get a cheap one with a fan that operates at low RPM.

i beleive it needs a k after it, 2600k or 3750k to be overclocked?

No unlocked multiplier so the only overclocking will rely on turbo boost.

This won't be too different from the stock cooler. Look towards a larger tower heatsink with a 120mm fan or bigger that operates below 1500RPM.

I think you can maybe squeeze 103 on the baseclock but nothing else it's not worth trying to be honest as 3 mhz will barely gain you 100Mhz in turbo mode and that's if you're lucky with your chip.

K chips are for overclocking.

That fine any way I was never going to over clock anyway unless it stared dragging, but I sold the i5 as I got offered an i7 for silly cash.
The chip is a bad clocker so friend is selling for a new one.... To much cash and no brain

Artic Cooler Freezer 7, Xigmatek Loki, Thermalright True Spirit 120, Zaward Vapor 120, Akasa Nero 3, Hyper 212 Evo, take your pick. Some of these coolers don't require a backplate so they are easier to install. Bigger fans (120 mm vs 92 mm) means they spin slower for the same airflow.

TS-120 or better if you ever think of changing your CPU to an unlocked 3570K.

My suggestion is go a cheap 10 quid cooler for now. A upper level cooler will cost the same now or later so why not get bigger/better when you upgrade and be sure it will fit your case and cpu.

my case is a test bench so i have about 8foot of head room for the cooler

I think it looks cool... but fan housings need improvement..
Will it cool better than existing cooler? Probably not.

there is already coolers like that so it just the next evo it should be released
