I'm possibly going to need a replacement motherboard and CPU (to replace a P4 478 3.0C).

As the system already has some DDR and a decent enough gfx card - I was thinking of replacing it with a Dual Core Smithfield (£58) and an ASRock Dual-VSTA (£35).

This, to me seems the best option as it affords some upgradability to a Core2, PCI-e and DDR2 in the future.

Any better options? There doesn't seem to be any AM2 boards that have DDR & DDR2 support, as well as AGP (& PCI-e).

Thanks

i think you are right there the boards with multiple option are few and far between. and if you really cant go straight to core2duo setup then yes seems like a good purchase :)
