Replacement fan for 6400

Is it possible to replace the fan you get with the retail Core 2 Duo 6400, without replacing the heatsink? It looks like the fan just unclips, but is there a suitable replacement out there that will fit (and be less noisy)?

Just replace the whole thing - there are some pretty decent budget coolers, or you could go for a top end air cooler like the Tuniq Tower

I couldn't fit a Tuniq Tower in there unfortunately. It's an matx mobo, and it's a squeeze - I doubt it could take anything bigger than the stock Intel heatsink, tbh. It works fine, it's just that the fan is too flamin' LOUD!

That fan speed is regulated I think, so try lowering the case temp. Two slower fans will be less noise.

Ive heard of people placing another fan on top of the whole assembley though placing two fans so close together isnt usually good for noise
