Hey,

I noticed that pretty much all of the noise from my PC is coming from the fan on the HSF combo supplied with my retail SD 3700+. I'd like to eliminate this noise as it's rather annoying whilst listening to music with speakers.

Now, I'm happy with the performance of the retail heatsink so I figure I can save some money and just plop a new fan on top. The current fan seems to be 70mm (is that right? don't often see that number).

Will any "3 pin" 70mm fan fit on to this heatsink and work with the little CPU fan power outlet on the motherboard?

Finally, I don't suppose anyone knows the noise dB(A) and volume CFM stats of this retail fan? They'd be handy to gauge potential new ones.

At a rough estimate (if its the same as the retail x2's) about 30 db but i don't know about CFM. You'll have some trouble finding a 70mm fan as well as theyre not exactly standard. How about getting an adaptor so you can stick an 80 or 92mm fan on the heatsink. That way its quieter and a larger fan will put out more air making the HS cooler. And any normal (ie not delta) fan will fit into the motherboard socket with ease.

i would advise looking into the artic cooler pro or the zalman 9500 to replace the standard heat sink as these will run cooler and quieter than the stock.
