Replacement Fan for Tuniq

I have a Tuniq 120 which sounds like an aircraft taking of on full power, although as far as cooling goes its superb.

Unfortunately with the stock fans CPU connector only being 3 pins and the header on the MoBo (680i) being 4pins I can not adjust the fan speed from the BIOS or with SpeedFan. I have attached the manual adjusting thingy that came with the Tuniq and it just plain and simple does not work.

I do not really want to take the whole machine apart and return the Tuniq as faulty due to the faulty adjusting thingy, so I was thinking could I get away with replacing the stock fan in the Tuniq with something quieter, with a 4pin connection so I can adjust the fan speed if required.

I had thought Akasa fans where the way to go but I could not find one with a 4pin connector that fits (I think its a 120mm fan I would need?) . So instead I was thinking of a Scythe S-Flex 1200RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan 3/4 pins.

Any suggestions or comments, or better ideas before I order one would be cool...

I replaced the Tuniq fan with a Nexus 120mm, run off a molex, and it is now quieter and cooler! I suggest you do the same... Load temps dropped at least 5 degrees and it is much quieter now.

From OCuk, I have heard that the Noctua or Scythe fans would be good substitutes.

wonder what temps you could get with a 120mm delta in there.Thats if it didnt suck out the inside of your pc like some black hole.

As long as there plenty of cool air coming in, and all the hot air is exhausted, I reccon you could get it pretty low...

You have to disble automatic fan control in the bios to use the rheostat on the tuniq.

Thanks, I did not know that, tried it last night, setting the fans on manual, and not smart fan in the BIOS. Still no joy.

Guess I'll try another fan.

I have mine attached to one of the channels on my Sunbeam Rheostat. Why not just get yourself a fan controller and attach it to that?

When you say that the fan header on your mobo is 4 pin, are there not some 3 pin headers as well? I have the EVGA 680i, and there are definitely 3 pin headers on it. The wire on the fan is pretty long, so I'm sure it would stretch to one of the other headers ;)

I replaced mine with a Synthe s-flex 1600rpm connected to the motherboard and set my bios to control the speed depending on cpu temp. It's in pc health - smart fan control method. never heard it speed up yet and the most I have seen it reach is about 700 rpm under Orthos load (Max temp cpu 38 degrees ;) ) both CPU and HS lapped thou.

Sometimes I just cant see the wood for the trees, or maybe I should drink less when Im messing with the inside of my machine.

Why did I not think of that?!?!?Worked a charm. Thanks
