Hi guys,

I've acquired several amd athlon xp cpu's which I'd like to first test and then re-use. The trouble is, is that a couple of them including 2x 3200's are missing some of those little black foam pads that are on the outside of the chip... any idea if its possible to get replacements, obviously not the genuine article, but something similar that will do the job? What would I be looking for

Cheers!

You used to be able to buy replacement shims but that was obviously quite some time ago.

Personally I used to run AXPs without the pads and never really had issues (just be careful when fitting the hsf).

You can get small foam pads which stop pots scratching tables etc. probably not the right thickness but could be stacked. I agree with above though, just be careful when fitting HS. You can also use 'fag packet shims' when clipping it on and ease them out when it is fixed.

The foam pads did'nt really do much anyway, they just helped with getting the heatsink flat when it is first put on top.
