Replacement for 2500K

Interested, I have always been told I need an i7 for SLI. I have also ignored pretty much everyone of those people.
Was only really in the bf games and crysis 3 that i noticed a change, switched from 3570k to 3770k. Gpu's at the time were sli'd 670's.

If all you do is gaming then it may be worth waiting to see what skylake brings, you are unlikely to get many more fps going to devils canyon. A 2nd hand z68 board will save you money over buying into a new architecture!

If you watch FPS or are interested in synthetic benchmark scores then you might see a small difference. In reality it's unnoticeable whilst gaming.

A while back I did some tests turning HT on and off on my 4770k and it made no noticeable difference.

I've been tempted to upgrade many times from my 2500k at 4.6 - 4.9, depending on how frisky i'm feeling with the volts.

Had it years now but can't let it go yet. Performance is too good. Not going to see a worthwhile increase going to a new gen cpu for gaming.

if u wanna change cpu, just go for the best cpu for ur MB and buy it cheap of ebay...
2600k
2700k(still expensive)
Saved $$

I bought a i7 2600k off the bay at a reasonable price mainly due to needing a another cpu for my ancient hcpc. My plan is to upgrade to i7 for games pc and buy a cheap Z77 board for the i5 so re-cycling so save money. Read loads of reviews for new cpu's and mobos but one statement stood out when I was about to pull the trigger.."Not really worth it if you have a Z77 or later motherboard you will not notice a significant improvement for the outlay. My i5 can overclock to 5ghz stable with low temps but I run it at 4.6ghtz just hope the new chip is a goodun :)

Still sat on a 2600k I haven't even bothered clocking yet. Nothing needs it for the moment. When the time comes it should still have legs left in it.

Bonus being that due a clerical error with an OcUK competitor, it, my board and ram were all basically free :D
