Replacement for 8800GTX

Hello,

My nvidia 8800GTX recently died spectacularly and I am looking for advice on a replacement. I'm looking to spend between £100-£150.

I noticed in previous threads the ATI 5770 being suggested as a good replacement. Does anyone know if the card has the same power requirements as the 8800, ie does it use 6-pin or 8-pin power cables?

I think it actualy uses less lol... it also requires a 6 pin not an 8 pin.

The HD 5770 requires only 1x6 pin pci-e power connector.

You might want to look at the new GTX460 from nvidia being released on the 12th for a bit higher than your budget.

May being the important word it will probably be faster but so is the 5830 but will it fit the power constrants he has budgeted for.

Still worth the wait incase it causes any price cuts. It probably won't but you can hope.

buy another second hand 8800gtx for about 40£ thats my advice. My 8800GTX 768mb is still running almost everything very well
