Hello my graphics card as recently gone kaput and I need to replace it with another card that's going to be of similar performance but as cheap as possible realy. I'm a bit lost with the current range of numbering and cards. The computer is like a second machine and I use it mainly for sim racing older games like Race07 or GT Legends etc.
Rest of computer is I think a dual core e6600 with 2gb memory all good in 2008 when it was all purchased.

The old card went all garbled graphics (like my GeForce 256) and the blue screened and now thre post screen and windows is garbled and stuck at 640x480. Dead I think.

What are you willing to spend, its easier for us to recommend something if we have a figure to play with.

Cheapest £0-£65 or so any more and I may just buy the cheapest and have it as a non gaming computer.

Old card was a BFG cards itch the lifetime warranty except their bust!

The 7750 would be faster than an 8800GTS. Which 8800GTS did you have, the 320/640 or the rejigged 512MB model?

IIRC a GT450 is about 9800GTX speed, ergo faster than your current card was :)

I would again suggest looking second hand (as current Nvidia low end is overpriced/non existant) if thats an option, something like a 460/560 would be a nice upgrade, as would a 6850/70, bearing in mind the 8800GTS is quite a bit slower than even a 4870 :)

I would rather not buy second hand as you never know where they have been or how long they will last! I don.t have any ATi or Nvidia preference, I'm a little surprised that something like a 6570 or even 6450 would do the business?? The games ran ok on my previous Radeon circa 05 or 06.
The 8800 gts was a 320mb.
The power supply I think is 500w but unbranded. The original corsair and its replacement blew up a long time ago.

i would just save up some more.
the 6450/6570 are terrible for gaming.

and get rid of that unbranded psu and get a cheap xfx or corsair one.

The MM should be fine and you can research the person selling. None of us selling in the MM would want a bad name IMO, so I would have tons more trust there than say ebay, but I understand your point.

8800GT is what I have in my PC at the moment and it is poo :D

+1 for the members market. Any reputable person selling on there would likely be more than willing to help out with rma if something did go wrong. Ive bought/sold several gpus on it, and any of the ones ive bought have lasted longer than some ive got new.

@Gregster, 8800gt is a stonking card, got one in my x58 rig. Runs like a toaster though.:D

I am playing an old game called Dreamfall (excited about dreamfall chapters) and it is coping very well. When I got it all those years ago, it was awsome and I imagine it could still cope with lower settings on some of todays games.

Mine gets used for bf3 now and again, copes pretty well at low settings at 1680x1050. Strange thing is though, it's incredibly hot at idle. 60c on a single monitor, in game it only climbs another 5c.

I am surprised it can play BF3 but cool that it does. I haven't tried it and I haven't even installed any drivers (used the generic microsoft ones). Maybe I am under estimating it a little :)
