replacement for a dying 5770?

i'm getting artifacts on the desktop and things like h/w accelerated video not working at all or bluescreening the PC so want to replace it.

any suggestions on what to get? the other pc has a flashed 6950 so only need something that can handle fallback gaming at 720p res with decent framerates. this PC also only has a q6600 in it so another reason not to go overboard with it.

I'd look at something between a 6770 / 6790 - 6850.

Edit : considering the performance jump and only slight increase in cost, I would more than likely go for the 6850 (just make sure your cpu is overclocked to at least 3.0Ghz) :

can't overclock it anymore mate, running hot at stock at this point.

a 100 is a bit high since i only paid that for the 5770 2 and a half years ago

maybe a 2nd hand card would be a more ideal thing to look at?

Below, there is also this which I expect you've seen. You won't get any benefit from the 2gb of memory, it also only has GDDR3 memory as opposed to GDDR5. The core is slower, along with slightly less stream processors, too. I'd probably stay clear of it myself, it would be worth paying an extra fiver or tenner in a model like the one above (middle link). It's not like you would be making much of saving if you bought the following, even though it is intended for only backup / less intense gaming.
