I have 2 6950s with the unlocked bios' and running at 6970 clocks.

However I have had enough with the driver issues I have been experiencing. Every time I update or need to re-install the drivers I get CLI.Assembly errors and can't use the CCC. The only way to solve this is to uninstall and re-install all the Microsoft .Net Framework packages in order.

I also suffer from very occasional microstutter and crossfire issues too.

Had enough of this now so looking to change to a single GPU solution and I would like to try Nvidia for a change.

I can sell these and have a few quid to spare so around so my budget is around £350.

I was thinking this would be ideal: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-156-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=2255

I play at 2560x1440 and it looks like I will lose performance but gain in other ways. Anyone had experience with both setups?

MSI are a good brand with a good reputation and the twin Frozr is a great cooler. The 680 is a great card and the 670 is only fractionaly behind it. You could save money and go for a 670 instead.

Are you set on swapping to nVidia? A 7970/7950 will be a side grade for you but will remove the microstuttering/crossfire issues.

The nVidia options are just a little pricier for effectively the same performance that's all.

^Yup, as a former CF6950 owner, 6950CF = heavily clocked 7970

If you can stick with it until after xmas we should be seeing the first of the HD8000 cards early-ish next year, in theory a single 8970 will perform a good 20% or more better than 6950CF.

If buying now I'd go have a good look at the 7970 Matrix Plat or 680 Lightning, both will give fantastic out of the box performance equal to and in some cases higher then your current 6950CF.

I looked at the 670 but the price different wasn't much so happy to pay the bit extra for the 680.

I have always had AMD but this driver issue is the sticking point for me. Not sure if there is a conflict somewhere but even a new install of windows didn't help. Having to uninstall and reinstall the .Net frameworks is really grating on me now so may as well try a change of brand.

Cheers, will look at the 680 Lightning.
