My Solwise homeplug network successfully let me stream HD content from my main PC's 1TB drive to my HTPC downstairs. However, sometime yesterday it gave up the ghost after 18 months' service and now appears to be dead.

I think I've decided to stick my spare 1TB drive in the HTPC instead of just using for media backup in a caddy. This means I won't need to worry about high bandwidth for streaming HD, as I'll just backup to my HTPC rather than my external drive.

What I do need, though, is a fairly decent wireless solution. I don't want to try another set of homeplugs. From my experience and what I've heard from others they do seem prone to sudden deaths after a bit of use.

I have a Bebox wireless router upstairs with 54Mbps wlan. What are my best options for getting a decent enough signal to the downstairs PC for streaming internet TV in SD and copying media files across fairly regularly?

Would I be best replacing my router or just getting a wireless card or dongle? And which make/model of each represents the best value-for-money or easiest solution?
