I did something stupid guys... I sold my 780ti a month or so ago as my phone broke and I desperately needed a new one.

I'm now feeling the withdrawals and am looking into replacing it. I previously had two 670's which were great but wasn't a fan of the fact SLI sometimes wasn't supported on release for certain titles.

So, what do you guys think I should grab? I'd love to get another 780ti but I can't really justify paying that much for a new one at the mo. I feel as though I've dug myself into a bit of a whole in terms of the fact that I won't be happy with anything less powerful. I'd be fine with an SLI setup if it ran just as well and cost a little less.

Gahhhhhhhhh

Oh, and I'd prefer Nvidia suggestions to be honest. I've just had too many bad experiences with AMD to go back to them at the moment.

If you're strapped for cash you could try a 290. I understand you said you'd prefer Nvidia, but this will offer you 780TI performance at a fraction of the cost. It will do it in silence too and run nice and cool. Remember you have 14 days to return the card under DSR if you're not completely happy with it or anything else to do with it. Just something to consider. :)

Cheers man, I've had a number of people suggest that card to me and looking at benchmarks and stuff it does seem great. I know this is probably going to start a thread war but, do AMD cards still suffer from awful optimisation problems?

Never heard of that and I've been using AMD cards since the early 90's. What are 'awful optimisation problems'?

Well, my friend had one of AMDs earlier cards and just complained of the fact that some games just weren't optimised very well for AMD on release.

My advice would be don't listen to your friend. If that was the case, i wouldn't be using their cards as I'm a gamer first and foremost.

The only game I've ever had an issue with AMD cards is Metro due to PhysX, never had an issue with any other game.

Ahhh fair enough then :P

It's probably worth noting that I'm not really interested in overclocking either, hence why I brought such a powerful card in the first place. I'm not very tenchically minded and messing around with voltages and what not has never stopped confusing me xD

I just want a good solid card right out of the box.

Furry muff.

What is your budget? If you won't be overclocking then i think it might be worth going for a higher clocked 290/290X card, if you're willing to consider an AMD card that is. Otherwise your best bet would probably be a 780. Trouble is for the price of the cheapest 780, you can get one of these 290X's and that comes with free games too and will be faster than the 780.

290 doesn't offer 780ti performance it offers 780 performance.

I think I'm willing to give AMD a go simply because of the price difference. As much as I'd love a new 780, I can't justify paying that much again at the mo...

But yeah, my budget is anywhere between £300 - £370. Preferably quiet as I have a new speaker set up and would like to take advantage of it, but it's not that important.

I've used a 780 and a 290. To be honest I couldn't recommend a 290 over a 780 but on cost alone a 290 makes it worthwhile. You might be OK and it's perfect, you may not. What I mean is that on the 4 games I've played since swapping from a 780 to 290, only 1 has worked to the standard my 780 did. 2 required RadeonPro to become playable and 1 crashes a lot. Not everyone gets problems but that's not to say they're user error either.

I'd never go back to AMD again, I used them for years after switching from Nvidia but can't say I was happy with any of them as there was always an issue with one thing or another. The 780ti has been the best card I've had for ages so maybe it is worth just waiting a little longer the new release.

I'd go with this if i was you. 780TI performance for £360. Comes with 8gb of free ram and free games. No brainer really. If you're not happy DSR, if you are happy post about it here and let us know. :)

Yep i meant the X model, my bad. According to anand the 290 Tri X is consistently faster than the 780 though.

I should hope it is being overclocked quite highly out the box compared to a ref 780. They're about even at 24/7 clocks. To the naked eye definitely so. In pure FPS terms the 290 shades it by a couple of percent.
