Got an annoying whine/buzz that gets worse the higher the fps. Doesn't need to be extreme, audible enough at 120. I thought it was the gpu at first, but turns out it's the psu.

It's not under warranty and this is the 5th corsair supply I've had, if they aren't blowing up, they are whining, Corsair has always come through on the warranty, but I've had enough.

Was looking at an EVGA G2 Supernova 750W to replace it. Last I check it was getting good reviews. Good choice or something else I should look at.

The hx750i is platinum, but I'm not bothered about the rating.

It's powering a a 5820k and R9 290, so will have a decent load on it when gaming.

Thanks.

That's bizarre. Have had the 1000w and 1200w versions and they are by far the best PSU's I have used with 0 whine and fan never turns on. Having said that I imagine the G2 and P2 from Evga and corresponding superflower models would be worth a punt. I have the 1200w EVGA P2 in my main system before replacing it for the HXi and did not hear any noticeable whine. Imagine G2 would be similar.

Other options depending on your budget could be the new EVGA G3. Improved in pretty much every way over the G2, comes with a much better fan to keep things quieter (not that the fan in the G2 turns on that often)

It used to be silent.

I got it about a year ago as a warranty replacement for a HX750, which was a few years old, but started to buzz loudly after being on the 5820k/290 combo for a while & had an excessivly loud fan (previous system was a much lighter load, 8350/5850 system). Then all of a sudden, it's been buzzing/whining when ever the gpu is loaded up and the pitch changes with fps. It's definitely coming from the psu. I wonder if possibly some of the resin/glue they use to dampen whine came away. As when I changed case, there was a rattling noise from the psu and after turning the supply around a piece of what looked like a resin/glue type material came out of the fan grill.

What ever the reason, it now has an annoying whine :(.

I think I may be cursed with Corsair. I had 2 TX650 die, a 650 with a chirping fan (seem to be a batch issue), the hx750 buzzing and now the hx750i has started to whine. Just cursed.

I forgot budget. I suppose £120 is really the max I want to spend. Although the g3 supernova can be nabbed for £10 more, I suppose I could stretch if it's worth it & is based on the leadex ii I think.

I've seen the Superflower and know EVGA are based on that platform, was leaning towards EVGA because of Warranty. Not sure what Superflower's warranty is like, where does it get sent etc?

I noticed in the other topic these are coming in Jan & I suppose I could live with it until then.

That's about the price of a G2 Supernova. I think the G2 has a longer warranty though (10 vs 7).

There are no reviews though and I think G2 supernova is based on the original leadex. G3 is based on that, £15 more, but longer warranty.

Seems like it's going to come down to price & warranty.

G2 Supernova. Based on leadex, £115, 10 year warranty according to EVGA site.
G3 Supernova. £130, based on leadex ii, 10 year warranty.
Superflow leadex ii, £115, 7 year warranty.

I suppose I can't go wrong with any of them can I?

Damn, that is looking good. Never even considered Seasonic, because usually they are more expensive. This week only, so runs out on Wednesday, but damn, what a deal.

Looking even better after looking at the rma terms on Seasonics site. Warranty is transferable and is apparently 7 years on the X-series since if bought after 2012.

Think I'll drop a note in customer service forum, just to check it applies to the uk and is just an out of date page, but if I don't get an answer (likely due to Christmas/boxing day etc), I'll probably go with it anyway before the deal ends, as it's still a good deal.
