Replacement for my GTX 1660 SUPER

My GTX 1660 SUPER is getting a bit long in the tooth, and I've found it starting to stutter on new games even on the lower graphics settings and I want something that can keep up with things like Silent Hill2 and FF7 Rebirth, so I'm looking to replace it. Resolution wise, I'm using a 1080p monitor. In case it matters I have a MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX (Socket AM4) motherboard and a AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Six Core 4.2GHz (Socket AM4) CPU, so I'm aware I might not get the full potential for the graphics cards right now (the motherboard is only pci-e 3 and cpu is kinda old) but I'm planning on keeping this graphics card next time I update the cpu/mobo.

From looking at the forums for my budget (£400 at maximum) it looks like I have choice between a RTX 4060 Ti (16GB) and a RX 7700 XT.
I'm looking at these cards specifically:

I'm currently leaning towards the 7700 nitro because as far as I can tell it looks like it does better on gaming and the nitro specifically has better (and hopefully quieter) cooling over the other two 7700s, but I just wanted to check if 7700 xt is the better card and what the actual difference is between the pulse, pure and nitro cards.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I would wait a few more weeks as AMD are literally about to release their new GPU and so is NVIDIA, you might even be able to pick up one of the older cards cheaper. You might be able to pick up a RX 9070XT or RX 9070 for not much more than your current budget and a performance better than RX 770xt or 4060ti, I would wait if you can and see how it all pans out. I would also stay away from that RTX 4060Ti.

I would also advise to upgrade your CPU to a 5700x3d later down the line when you can to pair with you new GPU, they can be had for £130-£140 if you look around and will provide uplift in performance.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm a bit worried that waiting too long will mean the the 7700s are no longer on sale as I can't find an end date (plus I've been burned before by waiting too long and finding the thing I had increased in price), and from a quick google it looks like from price leaks that the 9070s will be in the £500ish range - which might be a bit much for me.

So yeah, I'm feeling a bit uncertain about waiting too long.

amd full release is rumored to be on the 22nd of this month thats why the 7700's are on sale now

I would be looking at a used RTX 3080 FE or a new RTX 5070 in Feb. The likes of the 4060Ti are already too weak and not worth the money unless you could get a used bargain. Also bumping your budget to around £500 will get you a much better GPU if you think of how many years you will be using it for.

The price for 7700 XT level performance isn't going to rise in the coming weeks and months. Individual cards may rise in price as stock dries up. But price/performance is only going to improve with the release of a new generation of cards.

think of it this way you pay £400 now and you will get 7700xt but in one month pay £500+ and possibly get something that is much faster basically doubling your framerates, it also gives you a option of gaming at 1440p or even 4k in the future with monitor upgrade, gaming at 1080p is painful, games look much better at higher resolution. Also you buy something that new technology with upgrades Ray tracing if that's your thing, from early leaks the RX 9070xt is about as fast as a 4080 super give or take but this most likely be £550-£650 price range but it's hard to say with any certainty. There will also be lower models more closer to your price range of £400. It is a gamble but your paying so much might as well get most bang for your buck.

The £400 price range is one of the worst performance to price ratios in graphics card market, if you up your budget to £500-£550 you get much better cards that will better future proof you. I agree with McPhee the price of 7700xt performance will most likely hold stable give or take, where you might find issues availability on release because of demand and supply.

Well you've all conviced me that it would be silly not to wait for a couple of weeks to see what's coming so I'll do that.

Thanks for all the help and advice.
