Replacement for Ryzen 5800x

After helping my son with finding what is causing constant crashes the last few days, it turns out that his 5800x is faulty. We found this by finally swapping my 5800x3d into his pc and vice versa and his issues disappeared and the crashes then appeared on my PC.
He is currently between jobs so budget is a major factor.
Without upgrading to AM5, what's the best CPU option at present as we cannot find any 5800x3d or 5700x3d models anywhere?
I am not really knowledgeable with the range of CPUs, but my initial thoughts for the moment is to grab a 5600x and resell later once he is back working but I am unsure if it is has close to the power of the 5800x.
Also his GPU is a 3080ti running at 1440p and I have dropped my old Ryzen 2700 in his pc for the moment but it is struggling at running games well.

5700x I can get for £146 and 5800x I can get for £188. I know it's not a big amount of money between the two, but money is tight for him at present. Is the performance between the two worth the extra money?

No the 5700x is much better value while only being a minuscule performance difference.

Thanks for all the advice, I will tell him what everyone has said and let him decide. Personally I think the 5700x is the way to go until he is working again and maybe when he is ready or a upgrade is needed then move onto AM5.

Is his 5800x still in warranty? If so it is worth contacting AMD for an RMA.

You got anymore details about the crashing? You could run a positive offset on the vcore to restore stability or reduce the boost clocks a touch.

If both motherboards are the same it might be worth updating the bios. I had a very early bios when I bought my last AM4 board and had all sorts of problems.

Ryzen 5000 series CPU prices have shot up of late. Guess it makes sense given that those planning those on 3000 and below are probably trying to get a bit more life out of their platform rather than going am5. It's annoying though.

Must admit, came here to see if an upgrade to a 5800x3d from my 5800x would be worth it. Given the age of them, was hoping to find some used models…. Can’t believe the price of them!
