Hi, looking for a bit of advice.

My 9600pro just died and I'm looking to replace it. My replacement has to be an AGP card at under £60 (would rather buy new than 2nd hand). The only thing I use the card for is playing Eve and some video converting (both of which my 9600pro handled ok)

Having a look around there seems to be a few choices at this price:-

Sapphire ATI 9600xt 256mb
MSI FX5700 Ultra 128mb
Sapphire ATI X1300 256mb
Sapphire ATI X700 256mb
GeCube Radoen 9550XT 128Mb

Given my limits which of these would be my best bet?

Any advice gratefully received!

Out of that list I'd go for the X700. Look around a bit more though, you should get the same Asus 6600le I got for £30, which is an absolute bargain. It also unlocked and clocked quite far, great card for the price I thought. It's currently allowing me to play Oblivion... Woo!

Cheers for the reply Emlyn,

Is it difficult to unlock the 6600le, and is there any particular model etc I should be looking for?

Alternatively, you could try a 9700pro, 9800pro or even an fx5900. I've seen all on a certain auction site for around £40 delivered! Each would be a significant improvement over your 9600pro! :D

You may even be able to find a 9800xt or fx5950 for somewhere around your £60 budget if you're lucky! ;)

It was the same as unlocking the pipes for the 6800's, just went into rivatuner and enabled the quad. Then ran through a few games and 3dmark to check if it had worked.
Mines is the Asus model, unfortunately I've just checked said competitor and it's no longer on deal. Still worth a look around though, just to find a bargain.

Yeah, the x700 is the one to go for on that list. The 9800pro/xt would also be good if you could find them in that range. I'd steer clear of the 5 series nvidia cards though as they really were awful even back in the day. A 6800LE or 6800XT might also be a runner if you can find them in that range. They both have the chance of overclocking and unlocking if you get the right brand.
