Replacement GPU for £250

Not to sound like a nvidia fanboy, but that is a bit of a cherrypicked result. AMD cards usually vastly outperform nvidia cards on that game specifically.

Yep thats what happens when a game is optomised to run well on AMD? whats your point? Nvidia do this with their Gameworks games also? would you prefer i just post Gameworks games showing how bad they hinder AMD cards?

Its also DX12 which AMD get a good performance hit from.

The point is that when recommending one manufacturer over the other, a more neutral benchmark is advised. And besides, AMD take less of a hit on DX12 than NV!

Why would i do that? Nvidia are horrendous.. i wouldnt recommend their products to anyone, look at the latest headline with them having to pay customers back for the 970 fiasco...

I pointed out why i would recommend the AMD cards, its not my job or my wanting to endorse a company i wouldnt use myself.

You're quite right it's no different to someone showing Project cars results that show Nvidia cards outpacing AMD's by a mile, At the end of the day you shouldn't make any decision without looking at the big picture.

You don't at all hsae to endorse something you don't believe in, but the RX 480 has so many merits that you could use instead of a cherry-picked data point. It's not representative, and it's misleading to people who come here looking for advice.

That fact remains that the 1060 is the faster card for current titles, but I'd agree with you that the 480 is the better buy, especially as the OP is looking for a BF1 card and Gibbo said in anopther post that it'll support Vulkan :D

Ok heres the recent drivers for the 480 in ROTTR, we all know the 480 was not great in the game, but the new drivers have closed the gap dramatically to the 1060

That is the 2nd set of Drivers AMD have released recently that specifically improve the performance of their cards in games...

Its only going to get better for AMD cards, potentially in DX11 and definitely in DX12 and Vulcan...

Now tell me the 1060 is the better buy?

Thanks for that, I hadn't seen the full Nitro review :)

We're not really in disagreement, I just think you should've posted what you just did rather than the graph you posted earlier.

True, but I would never link benchmarks that are deliberately optimized. Neutral games are always more useful, as are aggregate scores across a variety of games.

If you only upgrade every 3 years or so i wouldnt buy an Nvidia card, they tend to not bother optomising for their older products when something new comes along, i believe rumors are Volta their next gen will be arriving next year?

AMD with GCN on the other hand just get better and better, for instance the 290 is still performing very well, the 480 is roughly the same level of perf

Here is a comparison of the latest AMD drivers in Hitman

Slightly off topic, but why do the Fury range do so badly in HItman in comparison to the 290x/390x? It is almost like AMD sort of hit the peak of performance around the 60-70fps area regardless of the card used. It is odd.

Same can be seen here

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/sapphire-rx-480-nitro-oc-4gb-8gb-review/26/

390 only about 10% behind the Fury X

ie in the kitguru review only 7 frames between a 390 and a Fury X, yet the 1080 gets a 10fps bump just going from reference - ROG strix

I have always found Hitman DX12 results to be a bit mental like that when reviewing reviews.
