bought a HIS X1900XT graphics card about 15 months ago now and its started crashing randomly and giving me texture errors all the time (I get like 5-10 mins in EVE before it randomly crashes) it doesn't seem to be overheating (getting to around 50-60 core temp) and the heatsink/fan seem ok - not clogged, I was thinking of contacting OcUK/HIS about getting it replaced/fixed/somthing but I've had it over a year now, would I be wasting my time? just over one year seems a very short time to have a graphics card live for, its not been overclocked to the max and spent most of its life at 2D clock speeds (eve didn't require fast till recently and I've only just started playing quake wars).

I'm just moving to a new flat so I can't really afford to replace it right now, but if I did want to what would I be looking at for the same kinda performance in the current range of graphics cards out atm? Geforce 8800GT? really I'd like to spend as little as pos but not go 2nd hand!

Depends what the warranty was when you bought it, usually with HIS its two to three years but i cant be sure, if its still under warranty then i would definitely get it replaced/fixed.

1 year warranty for a retail card is pretty stingy... can't see how that can be classed as a 'reasonable length of time' for the card to be useful.

Not sure where you'd stand on this one, might be worth rining CAB and seeing what they say.

According to the HIS website it is only 1 year... (which is rubbish tbh)

* About warranty
All HIS graphic cards carry one year warranty. For more warranty information, you can contact your local retailer or regional distributor.

seems wrong to me too, iirc they have to give you "reasonable length of time" and for the money I paid for it one year sure isn't!

If the card was bought from OCUK then there maybe more time on the warranty, some of the 3800 series come with a two year warranty with HIS/OCUK, i remember when the 1950 first came out, some had more than a years warranty with them here at OCUK, best to check up with OCUK or find his receipt.

I'll have to look for the recipt but I'm not gonna hold out hope!

any ideas on what the best option is for a cheap replacement?
games are EVE-online sup comm and quakewars

It has to be the 9600GT then. Good performance for the money.

£99.86.

However, I really think that would be a mistake since you can get the ocuk 8800 GT for £117.49 so if you could push that little bit extra.

Other than that, look 2nd hand. I know you said you don't really want to but I got a 8800 GTS 512Mb for £127 so I'm sure you would be able to get a 8800GT for under £100.

Dam RavenXXX2 - you're just too fast!

I'm in the same boat, had one of them special Bliss7800gs+AGP cards from OCUK mid 2006, I am sure it said lifetime warranty from Gainward, their website says returns should now be to original supplier but I can't find the receipt either ATM, trying to find credit card receipt.
I don't know what OCUK would say If I return it.
It loads windows as far as the moving balls bit ( XP) & then a blank screen appears instead of desktop.

If you can see a picture that far into the load then it seems like something is corrupted in the operating system rather than something hardware related. Keep pressing F8 just after the BIOS posts and go into safe mode. Remove the graphic drivers (Uninstall and remove folder from C:\) and then restart the PC back in to normal mode. When or if you get back on to your desktop, open up a web page and get the latest drivers from Nvidia.

If you still can't get into Windows after removing the drivers then you should try a system restore which you get the option to start when you go into safe mode. If all else fails then try a windows repair with the XP disc.

Inserting another card (6800GT) loads the windows as normal so I don't think its windows/driver related, also my other hardrive gives the same result.
tried all the safemode driver reinstalls. Need another AGP PC to test it on really

Give Ocuk a call they should be able to help you find your orginal order and get you an RMA for the card.

HIS cards have a one year warranty for one reason, there cheap, nastly and break easy, a longer warranty would sent them bankrupt lol

been messing with it again, I just realised that theres no post beep when PC boots up,
tried it with 6800GT & I don't get the post beep when it starts up either as it always has & yet 6800GT loads & runs as normal. starting to suspect mobo may be at fault:confused:

grrrrrrrrrr HIS told me no, I cba calling OCUK, gonna give CAB a shout and see what they can do

well they where touted as being the best at the time!

so we're saying the 9600 are pap compaired to the 8xxx range of the same kinda price?

I'm gonna have to wait till pay day before I know how much I can or can't spend (also new flat this month so getting ADSL etc installed is gonna cost £££) but are we still saying that the 8800GT is the one to go for? (just read in a mag that the 9600s are quite tasty)
