Not sure if that title is particularly explanatory for my question but hopefully i can do a better job of explaining below.
At the moment at work i have a Dell Inspiron 7570 It has an Intel i7 8550, 8gb of ram and a mix of 100gb SSD and 1tb HD for storage.
I've had it around 3 years now and just before Christmas, when i was opening it, the hinge broke and so closing it isn't an option anymore.
I spoke to the Office manager person (we don't really have a proper IT department), and asked whether i should get it fixed and whether i'd be re-imbursed incase it was by my old mistake that caused it (i've not dropped it or help it by the screen at any point so i'd be surprised if it was).
He said he'd order a replacement for me and asked about spec. I gave my existing spec but added that for certain Excel tasks i get a lot of slowdown and some calculations can render my laptop unusable for 5-10 minutes, so given it's older and due replacement soon anyway, it'd be good to get something a little more capable or at least similar level but newer which would hopefully cope well.
He went off to our external IT support company and after around 6 weeks of me chasing i finally got my new laptop today.
It's a Dell Vostro 3401 which i think is the very base Dell mode, with an I3 10th Gen 1005-G1, 8gb ram and 256gb SSD. Looking at Dells website it's not even current product and is discontinued.
The Hard drive side isn't a big issue, most of our stuff is cloud based so i only currently use around 150gb locally.
My main concern is around the CPU, it has less cores/threads than my current one, but i assume it's more efficient with those with it being a newer Gen of CPU.
At the moment, my brain is saying to try and reject the laptop and either get mine fixed, or just get permission to buy my own and claim on expenses (We don't have a strict locked down IT policy and we did this last time).
Something like this seems much more suitable and it's not even expensive.

Would i also benefit from 16gb ram? Laptops seem a lot rarer with 16gb these days and so there's a fair jump in price but i'm sure i could get permission if argued.
