I've just replaced the battery in my Sony Vaio and the new battery has just arrived.

It's showing as partially charged, 51% to be exact, but is there any special procedures I need to follow?

Should I just leave the laptop on and let the battery run down before fully charging it?

Lithium ion from memory has a part of the circuit which keeps the lithium under control. If you drain the battery you get this circuit having problems as it doesnt have power. Im sure wiki/google explains it better :)

Its not like the battery reaching zero - thats ok but having it at zero and trying to coax power out of it (the effect where a "dead" battery if left alone will give u a few seconds power on a later try) should be avoided.

Cheers guys..

The laptop seems to turn off (and stay off) when the battery gets to about 3% or 4% so I guess this is to protect the battery from running completely flat?!?!
