Hey guys

A few months ago my laptop wouldnt turn on, when i press the power on button the screen stayed black, beeped a bit and stayed black. I took it to pcworld where they said that it was a problem with the motherboard and charged me £500 to fix it. A few weeks later i got it back and it was working as new.. for less than 2 minutes, it shut off and the beeping came back. I then took it back to pcworld where the guy then said that the laptop was "dead" and they wouldnt be able to fix it and gave me a refund.

I tried switching it on again today hoping for a miricle, but it was still not working :( but it didnt beep anymore . When i turn the laptop on it's side there seemed to be something loose im guessing its a loose screw or something that caused all this. So i was wondering if it is possible to replace the motherboard myself and where would i go about as to get one.

model is Acer Aspire 9300

Sure it's really worth spending £200 on a new board?

I had an Acer that did pretty much the same thing and it simply wasn't worth trying to fix it. Might be worth checking that the battery isn't dead and that you've discharged the power properly (hold down the power button for a minute or so). Otherwise you could try Ebay, but obviously its going to be hit and miss whether you'll find one. Depending on whether the model was a business model, you may find the odd hardware recycling firm with one spare. However no one is going to strip a perfectly working board out of a laptop.

I doubt it's worth spending £200 to repair a laptop of that spec. You'd get a better one new for not much more money and it will have warranty.

The competitor you mentioned don't charge £500 for repairs its £229, your not allowed to mention competitors either on this site.

The problem with the Acer 9300 series is that it has the dreaded faulty Nvidia chipset which is pretty much unrepaireble to any degree of success.

Spend your money on a new laptop.
