A friend came around with a non working Dell laptop p.s.u....we checked the leads with a meter and they are o.k. My dad cut open the power supply and rechecked leads and bad connections......concluded power supply is duff.
psu is rated 19.5v at 3.4amps......are universal laptop psu's suitable for this application? If so can someone guide me to where i might order one?
Kind Regards

Ebay is your friend! I'd personally only buy a proper Dell one as I've had bad experiences with universals.

well I bought a replacement psu off ebay, looked exactly the same as the dell psu but had no branding. 1 year later its still running strong and only cost me £15!! So yes ebay is your friend :)

I bought a cheap fake dell from ebay, well it was a 'certified replacement' or something, it would power the laptop but not charge the battery. Bought a better quality dell one from ebay and all was good, it was one of the 'slim' ones I bought, looked to be legit and was slightly cheaper than direct from dell.

The really cheap ones have scrap steel inside to bulk up the weight!
