Replacement latop batteries

Mine's truly dying now, it dropped from 3-4 hours to just 1 hour a few months ago, and now sadly it's reporting full charge for a number of minutes only before pinging off.

My lappy is a Dell Latitude D410, but I'm wondering if anyone has had any good experiences with long-lasting replacement batteries from any one supplier in particular? The difference between a 'replacement' and an original Dell batt is a good £50 so I'm happy to go with a 3rd party manufacturer if the reputation is good...

...any thoughts?

Cheers!

The D400\600 series batteries aren't that great, only 57W/hr and 11.1V, but you should easily get 4 hours on a full charge with power management enabled in XP. Tried the famous auction site? They're all made in China these days so it doesn't really matter who you buy from, go for the longest warranty and check reviews\feedback.

Yeah I've just found a website charging nearly £50 however giving a 3 year warranty!

Crazy for a laptop batt I'd have thought, have emailed them asking how the battery should be behaving before invoking the warranty... bit more expensive than the auction ones but for a guarantee like that it's not bad...

Normally a lithium-ion battery degrades noticably by the one year mark, hence the 12 months warranty on most.

Keeping the battery out of the machine if plugged in for long periods will help. Also, fully charging and discharging instead of plugging it back in at 40% or whatever (with a regular cycle at least once a month).

I'm after a new battery, not advice on how I might have prolonged the life of my 3+ year old battery :P

Will just have to see how bad the site requires a 3-year-old battery to be before exchanging...

Slightly dubious language and nothing concrete, hrm:

Hi,

Thanks for your time to contact us. Glad to serve you. We promise the 3 years guarantee service. As long as it is in this duration, we will make sure that you can use it well. If any problem about the battery during this duration in case, contact us and we will help you solve the problem about the battery. Do not worry.

Actually the battery generally can work more than 3 years. Hope it helps.

Best regards,

Grace.

Maybe I should just get a £25 jobber from Hong Kong...
