Possibly bit of an obscure thread

But the left shift key on my black MacBook has fallen off.

I've never even used that key, but the piece of plastic that goes into the left metal "hook" appears to have sheared off, although there is no sign of it.

And I picked my MacBook up and it just fell off :(

I found one website in America, but they don't sell the shift keys.

So does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

In the UK ideally, apple engineers won't order you one in unless you pay them to install it, which is a minimum one hour job

Hopefully you'll be able to help me out.

Cheers

that sucks.... if its under a year old i would have apple sort it for you, free of charge.

how did it happen?

It's under a year old, but I don't really want to have to send it away for repair.

And I bought it from the worse shop ever, a certain apple reseller with a few stores scattered across the country who have had trading standards on them a few times.

It's absolute hell to deal with them about anything , especially with Apple stuff
:(

What I'd really like is just a new key sent out to me, but from what I've read, Apple won't do that, they want you to send the whole MacBook so they can do it.

And the place I bought it from are complete gits and will refuse to do so unless you pay their engineers to fit it.

Like I said, it just fell off with no effort at all, which I found strange considering I never use the key, I wouldn't of been so surprised with keys I use a lot or ones that have been stuck in the past, but not one that never gets used.

It doesn't matter where you bought it from, take it into an Apple store and they will sort it for you.

They check you warranty via your serial number contained inside your MacBook so as long as it is still within a year of purchase then you will be fine.

Oh and it's free :)

I could get it fixed by an engineer where I bought it for less than the the petrol would cost to get to regents street.

And public transport is out of the question :p

I was just hoping someone might know of a place I could order one for a few quid, doesn't seem like there is such a place though :(

The only place I've found doesn't sell the shift keys

Unfortunately they once got a load of machines stolen because of their poor very poor security, the guys literally walked in during open hours and took them, the cameras weren't even good enough to make out their faces, now they've upgraded measures, now you need to ring a buzzer to be let in and out and all machines are in clear view of the staff.

I would have no problems ripping them off but it wouldn't work very well I don't think :p

Find your local authorised Apple repair centre.

http://www.apple.com/uk/buy/

If you use the find a reseller option you can then start a new search to find a repair centre.

good luck.

The only place is where I bought it :p

So I guess there is no where to get a replacement key online, oh well.

I'll go without it, the key still works since the rubber contact is fixed.
