Hi guys,

My dad's PC (Inspiron 531) is switching itself off after like 3 secs. I have not seen it, tested ram etc but am pretty sure that it will be the crappy PSU that you know who use in their PCs.

As it is quite a small PC and not a custom PC, do they use different sized PSUs? Could someone spec something from OcUK to replace it? From memory it has an AMD 5600+ 8600GT and 4GB ram.

Would any normal PSU if so I would buy him something like this:

Or give him a crappy Artic 700w PSU that I have lying around somwhere.

Any thoughts would be great.

I think the PSU that you linked to would work fine, maybe this one for complete reliability, it's the same price but I'd recommend it over the one the one you mentioned

sorry man, but that "ocuk" psu is much worse than the ocz one he linked to. i really wouldn't recommend going for that crusade unit.

that said, with those pc specs, he won't need a 550w unit unless he is planning to do a big upgrade. instead, this corsair 430w unit is good quality (here is a review) and a nice low price.

as for fitting a standard psu in the inspiron 531, if the case is the desktop type one (ie. it looks like this) then it will happily fit one of the standard ATX size PSU like the above corsair.

Yes, sorry guys I did mean to link to xfx one but I did mean the 550w, apparently you don't need it anyway, I just clicked the wrong one on the PSU page!

Thanks for the replies guys.

In that case I'll just give him my spare one don't think it's articulately great brad either but it's '700w' so even if that means 350w should be enough for his pc.

Thanks again
