Hi guys

My Grandad needs a new remote key for his car ( Mitsubishi Space Star, 2003). Mitsubishi have said it is £55 + VAT for the Key and about the same for the coding to the car.

He just asked me if i knew of anywhere i could get either the key or coding or both cheaper?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

i was in a simlar position with peugeot, I got a used key from a scrapyard for two quid swapped the blades over and then had the chip coded at about the same price as you say.
Why does he need a new one?

Thanks.

The button has completely worn away and basically won't work anymore he says.

Might be able to get a new shell off of Ebay, crack open the existing key and move the electronics and blade over.

this is a much better idea, as the electronics are already coded it will save you the expense, unless the case has a transponder in it then you will have to dig that out - somehow :)

I did this with my passat. Got a new fob off ebay for a couple of quid. Swapped the blade and electrics over myself. The transponder (the little glass chip about the size of a rice grain) was super glued in a little crevice. Had to use acetone and a hobby knife to dig that little thing out of there. Took about 30 minutes just to get that transponder out. But you have to be very careful not to break it. The acetone (alcohol might as well) eventually dissolved it.
