Replacement screen - are they all the same?

Are all replacement screens the same or, if as I suspect they are not then, how do I find a decent replacement screen?

This is to replace the 17inch WUXGA 1920x1200 screen on my Dell Vostro. I think I read somewhere that the original is a Samsung panel.

I can find a few suppliers of replacements or I can send it to a laptop repair place in Cambridge as it also needs a new power socket and, I think, the heatsinks re-seated as it is getting hot.

Remove the faulty panel and have a look on the back. You should find the exact part number you need to search for on a label.

Swapping screens on laptops and Dell machines are easy as pie.

Like the above poster said remove the screen and put the model number into Ebay and you'll find loads of compatible units.

yeh there is a few on the bay from £70 plus for that model.

Yes lots around and I am not worried about replacing the screen myself. A little more nervous about soldering a new power jack and doing that stuff hence why I am thinking of using a company in Cambridge - they shouldn't charge much more to do the screen at the same time (hopefully).
But most of the ebay and other places supply "compatible" panels. My query was really about quality of those panels - how to differentiate between one and another - or do I just go for the cheapest?
