My missus has a very old dell lattitide X300, works perfectly until she banged the screen and broke the LCD display, only half of it is usable now..

I got her another cheap laptop, and Im not sure what to do with the X300 now - do I buy a new screen or just flog it on the bay as spares for parts?

I quite fancy having a little portable for linux, but when I looked at screen prices, I was seeing £100 or more for a new one

Anyone know a good place to get replacement screens? If I can fix it cheaply I will, Im not interested in getting a netbook or something, just thought if it was a cheap repair I would re-use it, if not, on the bay it goes..

Be a shame to throw it away, looks a nice little machine.

On the 'auction site' I found a good screen for £70, if the machine works I'd suck that up and keep the laptop alive :)

I've just had to replace a screen on an HP laptop at work. I found a site which sold a new one for £65.

If you're happy replacing it yourself then it's not too difficult a job. It's worth searching google to see how the bezel comes off, because that will save some time. The HP one I just replaced was held in with torx screws - Dell might be different, I don't know.

Dell are probably the easiest to change screens on, that laptop is pretty old and the screens havent been made for a while now, any that you buy will be old stock so make sure you get a good warranty on the part, you will struggle to find new ones.
