I've had this pc for a few years but after a incident with ice cream and the usb port where my son decided the ports on my pc would be a good place to stick some ice cream

there was a smell of burning and i was more surprised the m/board still works (I'm using it now)

what i have noticed is over the past year the usb ports have become temperamental

the ports now turning off and on all the time sometimes stable all day then you cannot connect a mouse or keyboard and at times the the mouse / keyboard will stop working

Ive no other problems with the pc so i was thinking in buying a good cheap mother board and keeping everything else

problem I'm finding is no one sells socket 1155 so anyone know where i can get one from ?

incase you need to know my current processor is a i5 -3570

have you search the 2nd hand market yet? I doubt anywhere else other than that place still sell 1155 motherboard in new condition.

problem I'm finding is in the few places i find a new motherboard they want £150 for it

If I'm going to pay that I might as well get a bundle with a new m/board and processor

Ordered one new last week £40, that was mini ITX which are usually expensive. Plenty of other models for around the same price.

If you have a spare working pci slot you could try a usb card. They are available in pci-e format as well, although I can't find one on here.

This would then give you 4 rear USB 2.0 ports which is plenty fast enough for a Mouse/Keyboard.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £21.68
(includes shipping: £8.70)

I never thought of this maybe it might be a idea i shall look in to it

Im just wondering if my usb ports has some error from shorting out, do you think this will just pass the error along or is this working on a different part of the computer

had a similar issue with my stupidity pluggin a usb connector cable into a firewire header, spark , puff of smoke and thought the board would be dead

when i was brave enough to turn it back on i found one of the chips had a small burn on it never plugged anything into the firewire header again assumed dead and never needed it, mobo works fine to this day bar the audio ports not working (probably part of the same controller chip?) digital out works fine though which is handy seeing as its connected to an amp:D

personally id try the pci card mentioned or a hub if you have any other working stable ports?

possibly de soldering the broken ports might be worth looking into if they cause errors? dunno how easy this would be

If the rest of your board is functioning fine then I don't see why it wouldn't work. Plus you can always return it within 14 days for a refund if it doesn't.
