looking into replacement taxis atm and just really wanting a bit of input from the motors boys,

criteria

sub £8000
must be less than or just turning 3 yr old
must be capable of surviving another 100-150k miles without fear of major engine meltdown consumables ie clutch/brakes excluded
must fuel from the black pump/offer derv like economy
must be as quick/quicker than the current vectra 150 bhp oil burner
must be somewhat reliable when used with a ocd maintenance regime

planning on changing early next year so drawing up a list of possible candidates the only thing i have on my list is erm another vectra cdti 150 elite :(

bmw options wise (to keep the bmwisti happy have already been looked at and i cannot get a bmw of a decent size(ie bigger than a 1 series in budget and in spec so ruling them out there was a few cheap 3/5 tourers with circa 100k miles and fbmwsh but thats the very bottom end of the market for those and i'd imagine best avoided.

so motors spec me a comfy 5 seater taxi

Why does it need to be quick if its a taxi? I can understand having a reasonable amount of oomph, so that driving it isn't a chore, but 150bhp+?!

the vectras actually mapped to nearer 200 bhp 150bhp is not a lot of power tbh,

My dad excluded, all the taxi's I get into round here, act as if their trying to out run the Millenium Falcon under full light speed, they're maniacs.

that raised a massive smile ;)

old wino the links you posted -

pug 407, didnt realise they offered a 200+ bhp oil burner thanks thats almost on the list pity its french any idea where the engine originates from?

chevy no just because its a chevy

saab- vectra in a party frock - good call as i know the dth lumps well due to having 2 so makes maintenance a bit easier on me ;)

vectra has managed a combined 39mpg over the last 3000 miles

that includes not many long journeys lots of short journeys and lots of idling whilst hangina about outside nightclubs leering at girls in short skirts

Had a octavia for three and a bit years

Wins themost uncomfortable car to drive for 16 hours award hands down

Funnily enough since posting this thread current vectra seems to be returning a few extra mpg and is running spot on the annoying behind dash rattle has also vanished

Hmm could current vectra be staking a claim for another few years use?

It's a taxi not a race car. Ditch ukdw performance thing.

eh?

if i'm thinking what your thinking, your implying soot enhancing tuning box?

nope eds mapping all the way :) although a tuning box on top of that might be an idea for some extra stupidity

No, I meant... buy a taxi not a 'performance' car.

140bhp diesel powered <insert saloon car here>

Job done.

but but but.......... how am i supposed to get to prestwick in 24 minutes with a bog standard car?

with only 140bhp it would take me at least 25 minutes, times are money and all
