Replacement video card

After the recent demise of my 9800pro I need a replacement card, but with Xmas fast approaching I cannot spend the £100+ for a like for like replacement. Any suggestions of a (semi)good video card that will match what I'm used to given the very average system I have?

Current spec:
2400XP
1 Gb RAM
n-force 2 motherboard
(and a very old 8500LE)

Not wanting to spend more than £50 and I don't want to make too much of a step down. Oh, if it runs Medieval 2 and 2142 then that would be a bonus!

or

Scour the MM.

You could stretch to 120 quid and get the gt, or you could go on the well know auction site, mentioning no names, and pick up a 6800gt for around the same price as the 7600gs and the 6800 will beat the 7600gs.

I've only ever gone for ATI's before, so how do NVIDIA's compare? What is the equivilant level NVIDIA to a 9800pro?
