My flatmate's a bit fed up with his 20GB HDD so he's asked me (to ask you ;)) how you go about replacing it. Does it need to be an official Xbox HDD or will any compatible desktop HDD do?

Title fail. Obviously I meant 360 but had GB on the brain.

You *can* use an external USB drive but the Xbox only uses either 16GB or 18GB can't remember which. You might be able to get around that by making several partitions but the easiest, simplest and unfortunately most expensive way is to just buy an official Microsoft HDD.

The official ones are much cheaper than they used to be. A very quick search shows £30 for 120gb and £50 for 250gb. Probably get them cheaper than that.

I got one off the bay , 30quid for 120gb but DO NOT use the cheap transfer kits to swap data to the new drive as it could fubar the new drive, happened to me and the xbox would only see 16gb of the 120gb drive

use a USB hdd if possible, transfer all data to it,take out old drive, fit new drive, transfer all data onto new drive

*should be* job done.
