I'm getting tired of quirks in a number of games with crossfire, so I think the time to return to the world of single cards has come, despite the fact that the cards themselves that I've got are superb.

I was thinking of going to a 1060 6Gb as NVidia seem to be a fair way ahead of AMD at present in terms of bang for buck, but what's the general consensus at present?

It's going alongside an i5 4670k, running 1440p output.

Cheers!

1060 and AMD's 480 are roughly neck and neck, the 480 is probably slightly better in DX12 situations...

Single card... 1070 especially at 1440p, anything less is going to give you issues further down the line.

agreed.. for 1440p at High settings you're going to want a 1070 if you don't want to worry about getting another card in.

480 handles 1440p just fine, although I went for two in crossfire for higher FPS, thermals are a bit annoying with these MSIs though, still not sure if one card is a bit iffy but don't really have the time to test, ha. They get hot as hell mind, that's for sure.

Imo if you plan to keep it longer than a year the 480 will end up being better value, and even now the performance difference between it and the 1060 is marginal and game-dependent. Go for the XFX GTR 480

In a well scaling game 7950 crossfire will be fairly comparable to a 1060/480. I would move up to 1070 as some of the others are saying if ya want a straight upgrade, if your after just getting rid of the crossfire and want similar performance a think a 1060 would be a good shout.

All three answers are bang on, 1060 6gb 480 8gb will play most games at max With a few settings dropped a little at 60fps at 1440p, where as the 1070 is more suited for 1440p. I would actually get the cheapest card out of the three options (I think there is a 1060 6gb on here for £220ish) and keep it for a 12/18months then get a better card.

Brill, thanks for all the replies guys. At least I know what I'm looking at now - I'll do some specific research on those three at the weekend and then pull the trigger :). Appreciate all the input :).
