Replacing a broken 280GTX on a budget

Hi guys...

Looks like my Graphics card has died and I need to replace it with something ASAP within a very limited budget.

Current Spec:
Q6600 @ approx 3.0GHz
MSI M/Board with 4GB RAM
BFG nVidia 280 GTX OC
Xonar D1
1000W Thermaltake PSU

A full upgrade is NOT affordable for me right now, so I need a replacement GPU for a maximum of £100(cheaper the better), preferably matching my old 280GTX, but I would be willing to accept a small performance drop if I have to. I am not a fanboy so have no loyalty to nVidia/ATI so will buy which ever gives me best bang for buck. Its so hard to tell these days what is best as the pure numbers are pretty meaningless, so thought I would ask you guys.

Forgot to add, it must have 2xDVI outs, or 1xDVI plus 1xD-sub as I run 2 screens.

Cheers for any advice.

If you can wait until the 4th of April then this is a slight upgrade http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-259-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1711

If you want to stay in budget and can wait then this is a good choice.

Bit of a down grade in terms of performance, but is available now.

BTW you can have a preferance to a certain company and not be a fanboy

Really can't go above £100 right now I'm afraid. I can see on OC site there are cards such as the ATI 5770 for under £100, or going nVidia there is a 450's for sale. There is even a 550 for £107 which I could stretch to, but wondering how these compare to my old 280 which is 2 or more years old now.

So long as I can play Bad Company 2, Crysis 2 and the like at mid graphics I am happy, I am not after cutting edge here, just something that fits my spec till I do a full upgrade later this year/early next year.

Sorry missed the above posts while posting this thanks for the suggestions^^^^^^^^

If you hunt around an Asus GTX 460 768MB can be had for 95 quid delivered, this would give you similar performance to your 280 whilst running cooler and more economically, with the added bonus of DX11.

Having said that the 5850s for a touch over £100 would be the perfect choice if you can find that little bit extra cash.

EDIT: You said you can stretch to £107 for the 550, why not get the superior 5850?

Thats the whole point of this thread, I wasn't really sure how ATI and nVidia compare :D

May well go for one of those ATI's people have pointed to, even if it means waiting a week or so for them to be released.

Thanks for fast and good suggestions guys, big help.
