Hi,
How hard is it to replace the keyboard on a laptop? Some of the keys have come off and I need a new keyboard but its going to cost about 90 quid to get it fixed, whereas if I buy the keyboard and fit it myself it'll cost be anout 25 quid.

Its a Toshiba Satellite A30 laptop.

Cheers,

Very easy! Normally the front bezel will pop off either the left or right side. Then there will be 2 screws to undo. Unclip the cable and pop the new one in and connect her up. Put the screws back in and tighten up.

Easy - 5 min job.

As above, very easy to replace laptop keyboards. They normally just pry off once you've taken out the the right screws

just take your time and use good lighting, the clips that hold the keyboard connector can be extremely fragile

Im fairly new to all this.. whats a bezel? I cant find any screws either?

on some of the toshs there is a screw in the battery hatch that releases the bezel. keep an eye out for this if the bezel doesnt come away freely ;)

The bezel is the plastic surround that holds the keyboard, screen, or something else in place.

I've replaced most major components on Dell, IBM, and Toshiba laptops, all are very easy to work with. Just get the manual, go to the relevant section, and follow the step by step guide on how to replace that component.
