Replacing a latop harddrive

I'm going to replace my laptop HD although I don't know how to put the HP software on the new one... the install I have on my laptop seems to come with software already installed

If you didn't receive any restore discs then you should have an option to burn them. Then you should be able to swap the drive out and use the discs to restore the software.

They set the laptop back to factory default. It clears all the rubbish and puts all the default programs back on. It is usually called 'Recovery'.

Creating restore discs might generate a clean install disc but there's a pretty good chance the installer files are on a hidden partition on the original HDD and all the restore discs are doing are linking to that partition.

The HP software is either going to be on the restore cd/dvds or in the partition.

There's a chance you won't be able to reinstall the software - might be able to download it off HP's support site though.
