Replacing a noisy PSU fan

I have a 750W no-brand PSU, which isn't as terribly crummy as some of the no brand units, it's been running for years fine and is SLI capable but the fan is by far the noisiest part of the system despite (from a hand over the vents) shifting about as much air as my Fractal 120mm fans.

The fan is supposed to be 135mm but it is actually 140mm x 25mm upon measurement. The CFM isn't labelled on it but I think so long as I get a reasonably powerful 140mm fan it should be fine.

The rated current is a bit higher than most fans I've looked at, can anyone recommend me a suitable fan?

+ I know to avoid the capacitors :D

That fan must really be epically noisy. I estimate it could be around 3500rpm and for a 140/135mm fan that's just crazy.

If a PSU needs that sort of airflow to stop it imploding then it is either massively over specced or it's just rubbish.

You might go a bit slower than 3000rpm but I'd be careful unless you can monitor the temperatures of the running PSU.

they use those fans cos there cheap though, you might get away with a silent 1300rpm fan, noctua are expensive but they cool well and are quiet, akasa fans are good too just look for the rpm if you can and stay around the 1300rpm mark any higher and they become irritating/noisy

The air coming out never feels hot or even warm at all, and I really don't think it's running that fast, it looks about 1800/1700 to me, its more of a hum/motor noise than a roar
