Replacing a psu fan

Did a bit a stupid thing today. To see how noisy the fan is on my PSU i stuck a pen in the fan to stop it for a second or two. Unfortunatly one of the blades shot off lol!! So are these fans the same as your average case fan and can i just fit a new one or is voltage different?

same as reg case fan so it is possible to change it but its VERY dangerous to do

Indeed, them caps can give a nasty shock.

If you do proceed leave it a good few days to let the caps discharge and be very very careful.

Don't even think about it.

The capacitors in you PSU hold enough change long after you turn it off to kill you dead. Twice.

Fraid your going to have to buy a new one.

If you're that stupid, I think you'll die several times trying to replace the fan.

ahh that bad is it?.....lol...guess i`ll buy another, glad i asked 1st! Is there not anyway to discharge the capacitors 1st other than up my arm? lol

You could contact the makers of your PSU and see if they can help.

Its not hard to change a fan in a PSU, so long as you are careful. I've modded countless PSU's in the past.

just don't touch ANY of the caps inside
personally i use rubber gloves.make sure the psu has been discharged(turn off at mains then press power button on case)
but the fans usually have a two wire connection so you may need to either solder or twist the cables etc
another way is to use either a 3pin or 4 pin fan of sufficient speed to cool your psu,with the wires run out side of the psu case and connected to one of the psu molexes or 3 pin adapter or mobo connector if you get my drift

Go for it. Most modern PSU circuitry will discharge the caps when power is removed. Even if it doesn't you'll be ok as long as you don't go touching the protruding leads on the underside of the PCB.

As said before, as long as you don't touch any of the capacitors its not that hard a task however make sure you ground youself before you touch it. You maybe able to change the fan but you don't want to ruin the psu after.

as mentioned before just wear rubber gloves, better save than sorry.
