Replacing ADSL with Three tethering?

I'm currently stuck on a 3Mbit ADSL line, with no sight of FTTC or any upgrades in the near future.

I was in Three looking around yesterday and the chap I was speaking to mentioned that the tethering add-on is only £4 a month, and that they had a "2000GB" FUP on the package (seems to actually be 200GB).

Having done some speed tests in the shop, and experiencing up to 20Mbit (there was one in the history or 25Mbit too), I was pondering subscribing to the one plan, and dropping my ADSL altogether.

My main concerns are:
  • Will it kill the battery? With a non-replaceable battery I can see this being a problem
  • Do Three throttle, do any package shaping or block ports
  • Latency to first hop... (although I don't really game much nowadays)
  • Is this a bad idea...

I'm having a look around the net, to see what I can find but it'd be good to hear from people that either use their phone like this or have experience with Three.

I can't remember the last time I really monitored my internet usage at home, being on an unlimited SkyBB package- but I'd be surprised if I went much over 20GB most months.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the replies, a bit to think about then... looks like it might be a nicer supplement rather than a replacement.

Well, I ended up getting a new phone and decided to go Sim only.

Three are doing the One plan, 2000 minutes, 5000 texts, unlimited data with tethering for £15 a month (12 month contract). Seemed like a great deal.

I'm getting good speeds at home too:

For those on the one plan, what sort of usage are you hitting per month? I've had the sim since around 3PM and I'm already 1GB up... but obviously I've been playing with it a fair bit!

Hmmm, interesting that a few releases from Feb 2013 state:

But it is a rather disappointing offering though since you only get 2GB of data rather than an all-you-can-eat unlimited data allowance. Furthermore, tethering is likely to be excluded from the bundle.

Hope this isn't correct... doesn't mention it on the website and the chap in the Three shop said it was unlimited.

Thanks.

Just got this through via e-mail:

As you’re on an Essential Internet Plan, we’ll send you a text and automatically stop your internet usage when you’ve reached your data limit to make sure you don’t get any surprise data bills. If you want, you can always buy more data with our 30 day Data Add–on.

*sigh*

Looks like their systems haven't really been updated to work with this new plan yet. My3 clearly shows me as unlimited and on the one package.
