replacing an optical drive question

Completely depends on the laptop.

Some laptops its 1 screw and the DVDr slides out, others you have to strip the whole laptop!

sorry, not owned a sony. but see if you can get hold of a service manual for it. For Dells/HPs etc they have service manuals to download with step by step take down guides

Theres one screw on the base just below the battery centre and above the memory panel holding the keyboard, then theres for small tabs along the edge of the top edge of the keyboard, use a small jewellers flat blade screwdrive press these up and use a fingnail to lift the keyboard up one by one, starting at one edge and moving along, be carefull not to pull the keys off. You can leave the keyboard connected or disconnect it from the flat cable connector, beware these are delicate, lift each each side up a few mm to release the keyboard. Remove the 3 or 4 scews holding the keyboard tray and slide it left. you should then see a screw or 2 holding the dvd drive bracket, undo these and slide the drive out, then swap the dvd drive brackets to the new drive.

Reassembly is the reverse :)
