Looking for some advice, more wires than I expected here:

Old rose before removal:

9 wires in total.
3 red and 3 green going to terminals.
3 black/brown going to bulb fitting itself.

Fitting removed:

New light fitting to be fitted has this diagram:

One of those blacks could have been a switch live, but lost it's red sleeve marker.
And you don't know now which black was the single one.:D

You should have marked that single black cable with tape before you started.

Switched off electric at the fuse box before doing any work, easy to sort with a multimeter, or continuity tester.

Make sure switch is on, & test blacks indvidually & three reds together as one until you get a circuit.

If you remove switch faceplace you should have a red wire to COMMON & black wire usually with red sleeve to L1.

Ok - so the three red were just looped live, and the three green earthed?

Got it shut off at the fuse box and have a live tester.

No. Two are the loop live the other is the switch cable. As suggested switch on and check continuity between live and neutral for each twin an earth cable coming down from the ceiling. Once you found it it's plain sailing. Put a bit of brown sleeving or tape on the neutral cable.

It's just a non contact voltage detector Nightflow.

I'm not going to waste any more of your time, a lot of this is going over my head, I'll get our family friend electrician round to take a look.

out of the 3 blacks you have two are neutrals one is your switch line from the switch there is a way to sort it out with just a A screw driver and connecting different combinations but if you do it incorrectly it will go bang so I'm not comfortable telling you as I've seen fellow electricians mess the process up.

That's the best solution electrics can kill a lot of people do not respect it.

Exactly.

I would have wrote exactly the same but we had a power cut,so I couldn't. Wouldn't want you killing yourself, as you didn't seem confident with electric.
