i would like to replace the clockwork drive with this SSD as well to speed it up
does anyone know if the OS comes on dvds, or will have to create OS from some hidden partition

Hidden partition is the norm these days, my HP does have the ability to create a USB recovery drive though which looks like it will allow you to recover to a new drive in the machine, either way you should have no issue just installing from the correct media and then installing drivers and utilities that are available from the HP support site. Or you could just clone the drive to the SSD using macrium reflect.
