Replacing Conroe stock HSF

Hey guys i was just wondering if i use the current fan that came stock with my
e6600 and the later down the track decided to oC, when replacing the stock cooler for a better one would it be complicated because of the paste that was on the stock cooler? Would i have to clean it off the cpu?

Not difficult at all. Everyone changes the paste if they usually take off the cooler anyway.

The old paste will have to be removed. Have a look through the products ocuk sell. They stock a large range of paste/grease removers, which should be in the same section as the thermal paste

or you can use plain old lighter fuel, or something similar, to remove the paste.

Arctic Silver instructions tell you never to use any oil or petroleum based cleaners on your heatsink because it 'will fill in the microscopic valleys in the metal and significantly reduce the effectiveness of any subsequently applied thermal compound.'
ArctiClean seems to do a good job. Used it yesterday. And it smells lemony fresh.

depending on how old it is you should just be able to use a tissue

as5 also suggests you only use a lint-free cloth as anything left behind can cause performance issues. I'm sure they're being extreme but if you're overclocking then you want to make sure everything is done right to get the most you can.
