Hi all,

(I've made another thread for a question about case fans too - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18646446)

I'm about to completely disassemble and clean my circa-2011 PC. My CPU temps are a little uneven across the cores and higher than I'd like so I'm thinking of taking the cooler off, removing and reapplying the thermal goop, and possibly even replacing the cooler for a new one.

So I'm wondering:
1. Does anyone have a link to a good guide to taking off a cooler and cleaning up the paste and so on?
2. What sort of paste should I buy? I have a little left from 2011 but I don't know if this stuff goes off after a time?
3. If I chose a new cooler, what would you recommend? I'm running an i5-2500k at stock speed but I think I'll overclock it now that the rig's getting a bit old. I was wondering about one with two fans on rather than just one.

Current spec: i5-2500k, Asus P8Z68-V mobo, Gelid Tranquillo cooler, Nvidia 670.

Thank you!

with new thermal paste you should be able to get a decent overclock with your current cooler.

Yes I've had one of those Gelid Tranquillos before and for the money it's a very good cooler, more than capable of sustaining a reasonable 2500k OC.

I use one of the Zalman AIO water coolers with a single Scythe GT1850 fan and it barely breaks sweat on a 4.5ghz OC on my 2500k, and that is in a tiny MITX case with no case fan, the same GT1850 is on intake fan duty!

The only reason I'm going back to an air cooler is a switch to a smaller case, otherwise the Zalman wouldn't be going anywhere, very quiet as well, for a first play with a AIO water cooler I was very impressed with how fuss free and simple they are to fit and set up.
