Hi

Recently my motherboard died because im a fool and somehow managed to bend some pins on it. Its a S775 sadly out of warranty by a few months but im thinking it *may* still be repairable.

Does anyone know if the Socket can be replaced? I presume its going to be an Asus thing only as it's their board, and if so has anyone got a scooby do at a rough cost if i sent it back out of the warranty for repair?

Or am i just ******* in the wind and i might as well ditch it because the cost of repairing is stupidly high?

evga once put a new 775 socket on my 780i "F-T-W" as well as a new nb cooler for 35 quid so i assume asus put new sockets on too. They are not all that expensive, maybe 20-30quid?

well if you are willing to replace the Socket, why not try and straighten out the pins?
Failing that. no idea...

I tried straightening the pins and ended up bending another so i gave up before i caused more damage! I like this motherboard and to be honest having a spare that is the same as i use makes replacing a doddle with not having to reinstall everything.

I replaced the broken one from eBay for £70, so if i could get it repaired for half that i think it would be worthwhile.

I dont suppose anyone has a contact email for asus support? Would it be different for an out of warranty repair? (I cant get on their site at work to check :()

pins can be a pain to get straight again, there was a tool that you put into the socket, clamped it in, and then pumped it, it then put all pins in place, they were only around a tenner but no where to be found :S

do not contact them for god sakes! i had a asus striker 2 extreme and it took them 3 and a half months to repair it and send it back to and there service was awful didnt reply to email i never thought i would get it back at one point !

I had the same issues with them, BUT, they are the ONLY option.

Asus say they are the only Asus repair / RMA Center for anyone that can not send faulty goods back to place of purchase OR for out of warranty goods.

Took me 4 months and endless phone calls to get my Striker back.

cost a small fortune aswell, in postage.
