Anyone done this? I was given a well used Dyson DC01 years ago by a friend, the original grey and yellow Dyson. Never ever tried it till recently and after a few minutes it smelt of burning. Someone tells me it must be the motor. Can't get new motors for it anymore but I found a place that sells refurbed motors for the DC01, fully tested for sparking, overheating and bearing noise.

I'll have to open it up to find out the motor as there's two types.
“One is called a YDK” motor and will have the code “YV940″ on the side
The alternative is slightly larger, and is made by an Italian company called Ametek. Predictably, this has “Ametek” on the side of it. "
So they have one of each type fortunately. Is it worth me doing this, ie, is this Dyson model worth saving and is it likely the motors will be ok for a year or two? £26 is a lot better than spending £200 on a new vacuum. Can't find any youtube vids on replacing the motor for the DC01, only for later models.
