I have noticed that when my a50 cooler spins to max speed it is quite loud and off putting, took a look on these forums and have seen that the stock fan for the unit can be easily replaced with any 120mm fan. Is this the case? I t is mentioned by others here that the Alaska apache ak-fn058 fan is a good replacement as it is very quiet. I took a look at this item and notice that it does not spin as fast as the corsairs stock fan, does this make a difference to cooling in any major way? My processor is an i5 2500k oc to 4.6ghz (the z68i bundle from this site). If this fan is not good enough what is recommended?

The Apache is generally considered to be a decent fan so will push more air per revolution and do it quieter than a stock Corsair fan due to more advanced bearings. However the differential in speed (500 RPM according to printed specs) will probably be too much to compensate for and you may see a slight increase in temperature of perhaps a degree or two. On the plus side the Apache is a PWM fan so will spin right down to around 600 RPM when temperatures are low, providing you hook it up to the CPU FAN header and set the profile correctly in BIOS/Software.

thanks for the advice. so what saort of fan could i buy that offers similar speeds to the stock corsair a50 fan (or provides air flow that would compensate for a slower speed?), fan should be quieter than the stock fan which runs at 26 - 31.5 dBA.

i replaced my cooler fan (be quiet slient wing)for a coolermaster excaliburpwr fan, nice and quiet on low but actually moves some air at speed to keep temps down unlike the bequiet
