I'm switching my 4670 for a 3850 pro on account of an incompatability with my mobo and non peg powered pcie 2.0 video cards.

I'm curious as to whether or not I need to remove any drivers or if there are any special steps I need to follow when replacing the card? I also have Compiz effects working with the 4670 at the moment so is there anything I should be doing to ensure that continues working once prior and/or post to replacing the card?

Thanks in advance.

Linux is pretty good at sorting out drivers when the hardware changes... you might not need to do much. It all depends - if you did anything ATI-specific when setting up your OS, you will need to reverse it and then re-do it with NVIDIA-specific steps.

I might have installed the restricted driver for the 4670, I can't remember if it installed it automatically or not. Is it worth me uninstalling that?

Sorry if I missed something obvious, but he's not installing an nVidia card, he's simply switching between ATi cards.

Just turn it off, swap the cards, and turn it on. There's always Ctrl + Alt + F1 if it goes badly.
