I've had nothing but bother with the 2 HH5's I've had, I sold the HH3 which worked ok but wireless range was shoddy too.

I've been looking at the Asus RT-N66U http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-049-AS&tool=3 it looks like a good bit of kit and I've seen both Virgin and BT customers say it has improved their connections or home network a hell of a lot. I can probably get 30 quid or so for the HH5 so 80 quid for the above doesn't seem to bad.

Anyone used the Asus?

I've used one since launch and I can only recommend it. Incredibly stable, I've never had to reset it. Wireless range and speed is very good for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Buy one, you wont regret it!

There are a few such as the Vigor 2860, but they aren't cheap.

AFAIK there isn't really a decent router with a VDSL2 modem that's targeted at the consumer market. I'm sure they'll eventually appear, but for the moment it's much simpler (and IMO better) to use the supplied modem and choose something from the massive range of Ethernet routers that are available.

Yes but people like me got given the HH5 and no white modem so im stuck :p

There are (or at least were) plenty of OR modems available for sale in the obvious places.

It's a bit late in your case, but I believe the engineer would have provided a modem just for asking.

My hh5 is fine with my adsl 2meg crap. but i guess a 1990's usb adsl modem would be just as good.

Search for:

ASUS DSL-N66U VDSL

On Google, there is a VDSL version of the router with good reviews of recent. Can't link directly due to rules I guess but in the grand scheme of things, that Asus is as good as it gets for us stuck with the HH5 and don't want to spend mega bucks on a Vigor.
